The San Luis Potosí mint issued this type 1870-87. The weight and fineness matched the old four reales but this coin is smaller and thicker. Assayers C (common) and H (somewhat scarce) exist for this date as well as 1885/4, 1885/3 and 1885/0 overdates. The SCWC prices the normal date higher than the overdates.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a better date.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.
