Mexico 1885-Go RR 8 reales

This specimen was lot 24737 in Heritage sale 3016 (New York, January 2012), where it sold for $747.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic 8 Reales 1885 Go-RR, MS65 NGC. Silvery-gray toning over fully lustrous surfaces with bold definition and no substantial flaws. An appealing, fully original, example." We hasten to assure collectors contemplating this series that this date from the Guanajuato mint normally sells for a fraction of the price realized above. The Guanajuato mint issued this type 1825-97 and most dates after 1829 are readily available. An 1885/75 overdate is listed and given a slight premium.
