Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Alamos is a slightly better date for the mint, which produced the type intermittently 1875-88. The SCWC lists this date as 1885-As/Ho L. Other mints include Hermosillo, Mexico City, Durango, Culiacan, Chihuahua, Guanajuato, Zacatecas and Potosi. The first specimen was lot 73403 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 50 Centavos, 1885-As/Ho L. Alamos Mint. PCGS AU-58. Blue and gold accents, paired with a nice strike, make this an especially choice example for the assigned grade."

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 21,000.

Catalog reference: KM 407.
