This specimen was lot 25308 in Heritage sale 3015 (Long Beach, September 2011), where it sold for $2,070. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 8 Reales 1885Ca-MM, MS65 NGC, very attractive with multi-hued patina and full mint brilliance." We hasten to assure collectors contemplating this series that this date from the Chihuahua mint normally sells for a fraction of the price realized above. The Chihuahua mint issued this type 1831-95 and most dates after 1868 are readily available. The SCWC lists overdates 1885/4 and 1885/6 for this year.

Recorded mintage: 1,345,000.
