This specimen was lot 25334 in Heritage sale 3015 (Long Beach, September 2011), where it sold for $6,325. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 8 Reales 1884Zs-JS, MS66 PCGS, fabulous old-time cabinet patina over fully brilliant surfaces, a superb coin and far superior to most seen in the marketplace." We hasten to assure collectors contemplating this series that this date from the Zacatecas mint normally sells for a fraction of the price realized above. The Zacatecas mint issued this type 1825-97 and most dates are readily available.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
