Mexico 1884-As L 10 pesos

This specimen was lot 1397 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $3,737.50. The catalog description^[1] noted,

"MEXICO. Republic. 10 Pesos, 1884 As L. Alamos. Bold eagle facing r. with snake in beak. Rv. Cap and Rays above scales of Justice, dagger, and scroll of laws. Well struck and lustrous with solid surfaces that show just a whisper of wear on the high points. A couple of shallow rim nicks are noted for accuracy. Listed as 'rare' in KM, and an issue that does not appear at auction very often. Impressive quality for this rarity, with boldly struck devices and bright orange-gold throughout. Lightly cleaned. Choice About Uncirculated."

The Alamos mint struck this type 1874-95 but most dates are scarce to rare.
