The first specimen was lot 72316 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 50 Centavos, 1884/3-Zs S. Zacatecas Mint. NGC EF-45. Finest of only two examples graded by NGC. Bold overdate. Coin is well struck with traces of underlying luster. Very scarce overdate. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." The second specimen was lot 72317 in the same sale, where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 50 Centavos, 1884-Zs S. Zacatecas Mint. NGC MS-61. Finest and only Mint State graded by NGC. Well struck with medium to dark attractive toning. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." This type was struck at Zacatecas 1870-87. Unlike the five or ten centavos, the early dates are more common than the later dates. The overdate shown on the first example obtains a slight premium.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, 30.5 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM-407.8.
