Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70768

This specimen was lot 70768 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1884-Oa AE. Oaxaca Mint. NGC AU Details--Cleaned. Nearly fully struck with a small patch of amber tone at the edge on both sides that adds to the overall character." The output of the Oaxaca mint was generally small compared to the other mints. However, enough of the later dates were saved that they are reasonably available. This date is only slightly scarce.

Recorded mintage: 142,000.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
