Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from San Luis Potosí is somewhat scarce, along with a rare “8/8” repunched date. This specimen was lot 9218 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $1,265. The catalog description[1] noted, “MEXICO. Potosi. 50 Centavos, 1883-PiH. Rare in this high grade. NGC MS-63.”

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 29,000.
