This specimen is a common date of a series struck 1870-90 at the Zacatecas mint, which closed in 1905. The SCWC records a 1883/2 overdate and awards it a slight premium. This twenty-five centavos piece replaced the two reales struck since colonial times. It, in turn, was replaced by a smaller twenty centavos piece in 1898.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.903 fine silver, .196 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 193,000.

Catalog reference: KM 406.9.
