This specimen was lot 71445 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 10 Centavos, 1878-Zs S. Zacatecas Mint. NGC VG-10. Only example in NGC Census. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." The Zacatecas mint struck this ten centavos with this design 1870-97. Several transitional designs were issued 1863-70, including one by the Maximilian regime, before settling on this type. It, in turn, was replaced by a ten centavos piece with a redesigned reverse in 1898. Most dates are common and overdates abound. This specimen is a slightly better date. The SCWC reports an 1878/7 overdate.

Recorded mintage: 30,000 including the overdate.

Specification: 2.70 g, 0.903 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM-403.10.
