Áureo y Calicó sale 347, lot 284

This specimen was lot 284 in Áureo y Calicó sale 347 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €460 (about US$607 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1788. Carlos III. Madrid. DV. 1 escudo. Muy bella. Brillo original. Rara así. EBC+/S/C-. (kingdom of Spain, Charles III, one escudos of 1788, Madrid mint. Very handsome, original luster, rare thus, extremely fine to about uncirculated."

This type was struck 1787-88 at Madrid and Seville and is common. The prior type, KM 416.1, was struck 1772, 1779-85 of 0.901 fine gold.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW, this specimen 3,30 g.
