This specimen was lot 689 in Ponterio sale 158 (New York, January 2011), where it sold for $437. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. 2 Escudos, 1788-C. Seville Mint. EXTREMELY FINE-ALMOST UNCIRCULATED." This type was struck in Madrid and Seville 1786-88. It is distinguished from earlier two escudos of Charles III by its lower fineness. This date is common. Unlike the Latin American mints, no transitional types exist for 1788-91.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW.
