Sincona sale 33, lot 904

This specimen was lot 904 in Sincona sale 46 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 1,900 CHF (about US$2,280 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SPANIEN, Königreich, Carlos IV. 1788-1808. 8 Escudos 1788, MF-Madrid. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung. Minimal justiert. Stempelriss auf der Rückseite. (kingdom of Spain, Charles IV, 1788-1808, eight escudos of 1788, Madrid mint. Very fine-extremely fine, Extraordinary condition, Minor adjustment marks, Die crack on reverse.)"

This type was minted at Madrid 1788-91 and 1802-05 and at Seville 1790-91. Unlike the issues of Latin America, the Madrid eight escudos are scarce, the Seville issues are rare.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW; this specimen is 27.14 g.
