Aureo y Calicó sale 448, lot 336

This specimen was lot 336 in Aureo y Calicó sale 448 (Barcelona, March 2025), where it sold for 4,200 € (about US$5,487 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "* 1790. Carlos IV. Madrid. MF. 8 escudos. Very nice. Original luster. Rare in this condition. S/C- [about uncirculated]." This type was struck at Madrid 1788-90, 1802-05 and at Seville 1790-91. The Madrid eight escudos are scarce, the Seville issues are rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a better date.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, 36 mm diameter, this specimen 27.08 g.
