This specimen was lot 11009 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $2,585. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Escudos, 1790-MoFM. 'CAROL IV', bust of Charles III. PCGS AU-53 Secure Holder." This type was struck 1789-90 only. The 1790 is also known with the king's name spelled "CAROLUS IIII" (see KM 158).
