Shown is a Spanish one escudo struck in 1788 at the Madrid mint. This specimen was lot 1915 in Goldberg sale 106 (Los Angeles, September 2018), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "Spain. Escudo, 1788-M (Madrid). Charles III. PCGS graded EF-40." This type was struck 1787-88 at Madrid and Seville and is common. The prior type, KM 416.1, was struck 1772, 1779-85 of 0.901 fine gold.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.875 fine gold, 0.0951 troy oz AGW.
