This specimen was lot 71616 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. 2 Escudos, 1787-S CM. Seville Mint. Charles III. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, VF Details Gold Shield. Though cleaned and sporting a very slight edge clipping, this piece nevertheless stands as a pleasing, budget example of the type from the penultimate year of the reign of Charles III." This type was struck in Madrid and Seville 1786-88. It is distinguished from earlier two escudos of Charles III by its lower fineness. This date is common. Unlike the Latin American mints, no transitional types exist for 1788-91.
