This specimen was lot 72589 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Santa Ana, CA, May 2017), where it sold for $705. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 4 Escudos, 1847/6-GoPM. NGC VF-35. VERY RARE date." The Guanajuato mint struck four escudos 1829-63 and is one of the abundant mints for that denomination; most surviving four escudos are from this mint. Long notes this date as "extremely rare."[2]
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 13.54 g, 0.875 fine gold, .380 troy oz ASW, this specimen 13.54 g.
Catalog reference: Fr-83, KM 381.4.
