Mexico 1886-As L 10 centavos

from the Stack's Bowers sale of the Kirk Menczer Collection, lot 71238

This specimen was lot 71238 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $288. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 10 Centavos, 1886-As L. Alamos Mint. NGC AU-58. Only example graded at NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." The Alamos mint struck silver ten centavos 1874-76, 1878-80, 1886-95 and this is a fairly common date. The SCWC states a number of dates of the five centavos (1878-80 and 1886) were struck using gold peso obverse dies, but this was not done for the ten centavos.

Recorded mintage: 45,000.

Specification: 2.70 g, 0.903 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM-403.
