Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Durango is rare, priced in the SCWC at ten times a common Guanajuato date. Assayer M is also known, also rare. This specimen was lot 9163 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, “MEXICO. Durango. 50 Centavos, 1873-DoP. Scarce date. One tiny edge clip, nice strike, toned. VERY FINE.”

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 4,010 (assayer P and M).
