from the Stack's Bowers 2018 ANA sale, lot 23370

This specimen was lot 23370 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $264. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Escudo, 1859-MoFH. Mexico City Mint. PCGS MS-62 Secure Holder. Attractively produced with edge dentils that rise high above the fields. The single finest graded of the date at PCGS with a couple examples graded higher at NGC." The Mexico City mint struck half escudos 1825-63 and 1868-69 and is the most common mint.
