This specimen was lot 72618 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Revolution. Oaxaca. 2 Pesos, 1915. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield. Displaying somewhat of a weak central strike with nice satiny surfaces and light attractive tone." The state of Oaxaca more or less seceded from Mexico during the Revolution and declared itself neutral in the conflict. It was spared the brunt of the fighting, which occurred in the north and around Mexico City. The state also issued the widest variety of coinage, ranging from copper one centavos to gold sixty pesos. A two pesos was also minted in debased gold (KM 745) and copper (KM 745a). Native son Benito Juarez was prominently featured as often as possible.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
