This specimen was lot 73448 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Oaxaca. 5 Centavos, 1915. PCGS MS-63 Brown. PCGS population: 2, 2 finer (none certified Red Brown or Red). Second bust type with low relief and long pointed truncation. Warm milk chocolate surfaces are consistent and render nary a speck of carbon. Design elements are well struck for the type, and satin luster flows across the fields. Eye appealing and sure to attract specialists seeking a premium example of the type." During the Mexican Revolution, the state of Oaxaca declared itself neutral and withdrew from all military activity. The governor ordered coins struck with the effigy of native son Benito Juarez, died in 1872. The handmade dies led to many varieties; the SCWC lists KM 715, 716, 717, 718, 719, 720 and KM 721 for the five centavos.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper, 22 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-717.
