This specimen was lot 73439 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Morelos. 10 Centavos, 1915. PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, VF Details. A rather clear "15" is visible despite the striking weakness of this crude piece. Some minor pitting and thick patina likely is the cause of the PCGS designation, though this coin is verily right on the edge of eligibility for a numerical assignment. Quite a seldom encountered type, we can only recall offering one other in the past decade or so, making the present coin ideal for a comprehensive cabinet." During the Revolution, the state of Morelos was the home turf of Emiliano Zapata and his forces and he rarely ventured outside it. His influence came mostly from his proximity to Mexico City. The SCWC divides this issue into two types: the first, shown here, has the value "10" over a "¢" symbol; the second (KM 699) spells the value "10 centavos".

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 8.69 g, copper, 24 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-697; GB-273.
