Oaxaca 1915 5 centavos KM-719
This specimen was lot 73449 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $60. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Oaxaca. 5 Centavos, 1915. PCGS MS-63 Red Brown. Bright hazel brown surfaces demonstrate a reddish glint when looked at from more shallow angles while the portrait appears more brown in complexion. Detailed surfaces offer superb technical quality for the grade, demonstrating very few marks, nicks, or flecks of carbon. Eye appealing and sure to advance the specialist's revolutionary-era set." During the Mexican Revolution, the state of Oaxaca declared itself neutral and withdrew from all military activity. The governor ordered coins struck with the effigy of native son Benito Juarez, died in 1872. The handmade dies led to many varieties; the SCWC lists KM 715, 716, 717, 718, 719, 720 and KM 721 for the five centavos.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: copper, 22 mm diameter.
