The first specimen was lot 1048 in Sincona sale 22 (Zürich, May 2015), where it sold for 925 CHF (about US$1,162 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Brandenburg-Preussen, Königreich, Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1840 Friedrich dor 1809. Berlin. Sehr schön. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, Frederick d'or of 1809, Berlin mint, very fine.)"

The second specimen was lot 3631 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €800 (about US$1,033 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1840. Friedrichs d'or 1809, A. GOLD. Bearbeitungsstelle am Rand, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, frederick d'or of 1809. Tooling on edge, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This denomination was introduced as a wilhelm d'or in 1737 during the reign of Friedrich Wilhelm I (r. 1713-40) but continued as a friedrichs d'or during the rule of Frederick the Great (r. 1740-86). This type was issued 1798-1816 from Berlin (shown here) and Breslau. The denomination, worth five thaler, was retired in 1855.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a common date.

Specification: 6.682 g, 0.903 fine gold, .194 troy oz AGW, the first specimen 6.62 g, the second specimen 6.63 g.
