Künker sale 353, lot 3974

This specimen was lot 3974 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €280 (about US$390 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1840. Taler 1809, A. In der Rückseitenumschrift das H in VIERZEHN ohne Querstrich. R Fast vorzüglich/vorzüglich. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, thaler of 1809, the "H" in "VIERZEHN" lacks a crossbar. Rare, about extremely fine.)"

This type was issued 1809-16 at Berlin (shown here) and Dusseldorf and is common in worn condition. The Berlin mint also struck the uniformed bust type (KM 368) in 1809 and the mintage figure comprises both.
