Künker sale 353, lot 3994

This specimen was lot 3994 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €360 (about US$501 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1840. 1/6 Taler 1809, A. Min. Schrötlingsfehler, fast Stempelglanz. Erworben am 13.2.1993 von Manfred Olding, Osnabrück. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, one sixth thaler of 1809. Minor planchet flaws, about uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1809-18 and replaced the previous four groschen (KM 370) of 1797-1809.

Recorded mintage: 636,558, a fairly common date.

Specification: 5.35 g, 0.521 fine silver, this specimen 5.26 g.
