Stack's Bowers February 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73325

This specimen was lot 73325 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Prussia. Taler, 1809-A. Berlin Mint. Friedrich Wilhelm III. PCGS MS-61. The finer of just two seen at PCGS for the date, this Mint State crown offers an enchanting gunmetal gray tone with some elegant hints of amber spread throughout. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck at Berlin and Breslau 1797-1809 and is common; however, the two dates from Glatz, 1808 and 1809, are rare.

Recorded mintage: 827,690 (including Dav-756), a better date.

Specification: 22.27 g, 0.750 fine silver.
