Künker sale 353, lot 4001

This specimen was lot 4001 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €400 (about US$557 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1840. Die Münzstätte Glatz. Taler 1808, G. Am Ende der Vorderseitenumschrift ein Punkt nach PREUSSEN. R Sehr schön. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, thaler of 1808, Glatz mint, with a dot after PREUSSEN. Rare, very fine.)"

This type was struck at Berlin and Breslau 1797-1809 and is common; however, the two dates from Glatz, 1808 and 1809, are rare.

Recorded mintage: 33,000, a rare date.

Specification: 22.27 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 21,95 g.
