This specimen was lot 31520 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $1,500. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Prussia. Friedrich Wilhelm III gold Frederick d'Or 1818-A AU55 NGC, Berlin mint. A fairly high grade for the type with a handsome sunny-gold patina, exhibiting a good deal of remaining luster. From the Allen Moretti Swiss Collection." This denomination was introduced as a wilhelm d'or in 1737 during the reign of Friedrich Wilhelm I (r. 1713-40) but continued as a friedrichs d'or during the rule of Frederick the Great (r. 1740-86). This type was issued 1817-19 and 1822. The denomination was retired in 1855.
