the Prussian Rhineland after the Congress of Vienna, with Düsseldorf as its capital

This specimen was lot 4010 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €65 (about US$91 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1840. Die Münzstätte Düsseldorf. 4 Groschen (1/6 Taler) 1818, D, mit Gegenstempel Blatt auf der Rückseite. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Münzzentrum 20, Köln 1974, Nr. 576. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, four groschen or one-sixth thaler of 1818, with a leaf counterstamp on the reverse. Very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was issued 1816-18 at Berlin and Düsseldorf (shown here) along with a sixth thaler of the same weight and fineness. In 1821, authorities made up their minds and terminated this denomination while the sixth thaler continued until 1868.

Recorded mintage: 1,136,664, including KM 385.

Specification: 5.31 g, 0.521 fine silver, this specimen 5,27 g.
