Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70947

This specimen was lot 70947 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1890-Zs FZ. Zacatecas Mint. NGC MS-62. Premium quality for the grade with nice surfaces and splashes of attractive pale pink, lilac, and orange tone over both sides." The Zacatecas mint is tied with Guanajuato as the most prolific mint during the Republic and most of the eight reales struck 1825-97 are common, as is this one. Assayer FZ served 1887-1904. No varieties are reported in the SCWC for the year.
