Mexico 1890-Mo M 2 1/2 pesos

This specimen was lot 1443 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $632.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Republic. 2½ Pesos, 1890 Mo M. Mexico City. Bold eagle facing r. with snake in beak. Rv. Value in wreath. Hairlines are heavier on the reverse, a trifle dull. Scarce as a date. Cleaned. About Uncirculated." The type is also recorded from Culiacan, Durango, Guanajuato, Alamos, Hermosillo and Zacatecas but Mexico City is by far the most prolific issuer. The series, never popular, ended in 1893.
