Heritage sale 3035, lot 31294

This specimen was lot 31294 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $763.75. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic gold 10 Pesos 1890 Cn-M XF Details (Mount Removed) NGC, Culiacan mint. Mount removed at 12 o'clock and probably an ex-jewelry piece since showing the typical surface marks of that use. Despite the noted flaws, still desirable since a most infrequent date, with most of the seen specimens impaired or damaged. From The FoxLair Collection." This specimen is one of a series struck at the Culiacan mint 1881-1904. Mintage figures are not a reliable indicator of rarity for this type due to the accidents of hoarding; many low mintage issues are readily available while other high mintage issues are very rare.
