The first specimen was lot 6222 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $258.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Chihuahua. 8 Reales, 1890/88-MM. DP-Ca73 (unlisted overdate). VERY RARE overdate. From our sale #139, lot #131 where it hammered for $325. BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED."

The second specimen was lot 6221 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $2,587.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Chihuahua. 8 Reales, 1890-MM. DP-Ca70. Struck 40% off center. Light scratches. EXTREMELY FINE." The Chihuahua mint struck eight reales 1831-95. Many of the early dates are rare but the 1890 is common in all grades. The overdate, 1890/88, is rare. Off-center strikes are known for various dates but all are scarce.

Recorded mintage: 2,137,000.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
