This specimen was lot 1392 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $1,725. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Republic. 20 Pesos, 1882/1 Mo M. Mexico City. Bold eagle facing r. with snake in beak. Rv. Cap and Rays above scales of Justice, dagger, and scroll of laws. Attractive orange-gold surfaces and a good strike. Choice About Uncirculated." The Mexico City mint struck this type 1870-1905 and was by far the largest producer. The SCWC awards this overdate no premium over the normal date.
