Mexico 1882Zs 10 pesos rev Eliasberg 3389.jpg

This specimen was lot 3389 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $2,070. The catalog description[1] noted, "1882/1 S 10 pesos. Zacatecas mint. MS-63 (NGC). Types as above. Pale yellow gold, reflective in the obverse fields. Lightly hairlined on the reverse, but lustrous. A scarce date in the series, only 1,599 struck. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942." Mintage figures are not a reliable indicator of rarity for this type due to the accidents of hoarding; many low mintage issues are readily available while other high mintage issues are very rare.

Recorded mintage: 1,599.
