This specimen is a scarce date of a series struck 1880-89 at the Guadalajara mint, which closed in 1895. This twenty-five centavos piece replaced the two reales struck since colonial times. It, in turn, was replaced by a smaller twenty centavos piece in 1898. This specimen was lot 9078 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $345. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Guadalajara. 25 Centavos, 1882-GaS. Beautifully toned. NGC MS-64."

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.903 fine silver, .196 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 18,000.
