This specimen is a scarce date of a series struck 1874-95 at the Hermosillo mint, which closed in 1895. This fifty centavos piece replaced the four reales struck since colonial times. It, in turn, was replaced by a smaller fifty centavos piece in 1905. This specimen was lot 9192 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $287.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Hermosillo. 50 Centavos, 1882-HoA. Scarce date. Sharply struck, lightly cleaned. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED."

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW, 30.5 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Recorded mintage: unknown but quite scarce.
