This specimen was lot 11119 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $411. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. War of Independence Guadalajara. 1/2 Real, 1814-MR. Toned. VERY FINE." The Guadalajara mint was opened by the royalists during the War of Independence and struck half, one, two, four and eight reales in silver and four and eight escudos in gold, the only branch mint to do so during the war. Half reales dated 1812, 1814 and 1815 are known, all scarce.
Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.
Specification: 1.69 grams, 0.896 fine silver, .049 troy oz ASW.
