This specimen was lot 11118 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $881. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. War of Independence Guadalajara. 2 Reales, 1815/4-MR. RARE date. Test cut at 9 o'clock. ABOUT GOOD." The Guadalajara mint was opened by the royalists during the War of Independence and struck half, one, two, four and eight reales in silver and four and eight escudos in gold, the only branch mint to do so during the war. Two reales dated 1812, 1814, 1815 and 1821 are known, all scarce.
