Chile 1815-So FJ 2 reales

Stack's Bowers October 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 74193

This specimen was lot 74193 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $288. The catalog description^[1] noted, "CHILE. 2 Reales, 1815-So FJ. Santiago Mint. Ferdinand VII. PCGS EF-45. From the Richard August Collection." This type was struck at Santiago 1808-17 in limited numbers and was the final two reales struck with the portrait of the king. Assayer FJ operated 1803-17 and survived into the republican regime. The bust of Ferdinand VII appears on the two reales, eight reales and eight escudos. The SCWC states only four are known of this date.
