This specimen was lot 24168 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand VII gold 8 Escudos 1815-FJ, AU58 NGC, lightly toned with considerable mint luster, a pleasant coin with good eye appeal and no obvious flaws." The specimen was one of a series struck 1811-17 during the reign of Ferdinand VII. It bears his name and the bust of Charles IV, who abdicated in 1808. The bust of Ferdinand appears on the eight reales and the two reales but not on any gold. This type is fairly common for Spanish colonial gold.
