The first specimen was lot 385 in Aureo & Calicó sale 238 (Barcelona, November 2011), where it sold for 260 euro (about US$412 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1815. México. JJ. 8 reales. Leyenda del reverso: sin punto delante de HISPAN. MBC+. (Eight reales of 1815, Mexico City mint, reverse legend without dot after HISPAN. Choice very fine.)"

The Mexico City mint continued to operate throughout the war of independence and did not fall into the hands of the rebels until the royalists' final surrender in 1821.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
