from Sedwick Treasure Auction 21, lot 1612

This specimen was lot 1612 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 21 (Winter Park, FL, May 2017), where it sold for $235. The catalog description[1] noted, "Guadalajara, Mexico, 8 reales, Ferdinand VII, 1814MR. Non-toned AXF with weak centers, minor rim-flaws (as made)." The Guadalajara mint was opened in 1812 by the royalists during the Mexican war of independence and operated until 1895. It struck eight reales with the portrait of Ferdinand VII 1812-22. Many are very crude.
