This specimen was lot 70225 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Oaxaca. War of Independence. 8 Reales, 1814. PCGS EF-45. A RARE variety of the popular Morelos 8 Reales displaying the full name "OAXACA" arched above the bow. Only lightly circulated and free from corrosion, it shows only some adjustment marks as made. A lovely example due to its crisp detail and burnished brown tone." Morelos' eight reales of 1814 are divided into KM 240 ("SUD OXA") and KM 241 ("SUD OAXACA"), both copper.
