Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 71308

This specimen was lot 71308 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $384. The catalog description^[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. 5 Francs, 1811-H. La Rochelle Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS Genuine--Spot Removed, Unc Details. The noted spot removal on this crown occurs behind the portrait of the emperor, with the surfaces otherwise remaining without anything in the way of circulation. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Sotheby's in 1979 for $268). Ex: Sotheby's (2/1979) Lot # 227." This is an uncommon date of a type struck 1809-14 at numerous mints.

Recorded mintage: 1,028,060^[2].

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
