Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 71305

This specimen was lot 71305 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. 5 Francs, 1810-I. Limoges Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS VF-35. A fairly difficult type, this handsome and wholesome crown offers an amber-gray hue and only even wear across the higher points. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Bernard Southgate on 17 August 1973)." This is a rare date of a type struck 1809-14 at numerous mints. There are two known per Le Franc[2].

Recorded mintage: 26,149[2].

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
